Self-discipline is not based on willpower, but the environment you create for yourself. Your environment can be changed. Success is NOT based on willpower, the smart working environment that removes stressors, blockers, and provide structure is how to avoid resistance in the first place.

Our brains are not meant to store all this information. We need structure, a collection of notes that can be linked together to be able to use our brains to think. A Capture Process. Connect disparate ideas, form new ones, and WRITE. This structure does NOT happen by chance, it is intentionally put in place.

The ideal structure is simple. It allows us to build complexity on top of a firm base. This is NOT a razed earth approach, we are here to change our process from this point out, not build tech-debt of ‘fixing’ all the bad notes we’ve taken in the past.

Structure ties directly to routine. If we have a simple, repeatable pattern that is built into our workflow, this is how bottlenecks are removed and how change can be introduced. If you can trust your system, only then can your brain be allowed to think. If something is still on your mind distracting you, something is outside of your system, you are not ready to write.
